HOW IT ALL STARTED
I’m Cynthia Kirby and I founded Canvas Design Group in 1995. I was enjoying a watercolor class at the local art museum at the time and found, along with my classmates, that we needed a lightweight cloth portfolio to carry the large sheets of paper used for painting in watercolors. Whoever said that need is the mother of invention was spot on. I designed what would be the perfect size portfolio for a full and half sheets of watercolor paper. Then there was the task of finding a manufacturer for this new enterprise and once again the stars were aligned, and I found Sport Systems Custom Bag Corporation, a well established family owned manufacturing factory in Woonsocket, RI., right around the corner. Such luck. And so with two artist portfolios started a decades long relationship of innovative ideas and manufacturing excellence. With those two portfolios Canvas Design Group was born and has been marketing top of the line canvas bags ever since. Read on for more of our story.

The promotional products market is huge and diverse and within that market, bags of infinite variety play a very important roll.
